An engaging, inspiring 2019 edition of 100in1day MTL in the true spirit of Montréal!

Thanks to their commitment, audacity, imagination and generosity, Montréal has become a veritable open-air civic incubator, where gestures large and small, ephemeral or enduring, have led us to reflect on our ability to act as citizens.

The teams at the MIS and the Institut du Nouveau Monde (INM), along with Diego Cuadros Rojas, co-founder of this international movement that came to Montréal from Bogotá, would like to express warm thanks to all the Montrealers who participated in this event. Special thanks go to #Étincellesdebonheur, whose many actions were naturally added to 100en1jourMTL and coloured the day with creativity, as well as to the Ville de Montréal, which has supported this festival across Montréal, recognizing the power of citizen participation as a vector of social transformation.

A silent collective disco, a knitting bee in a park, a game with social value, looks exchanged between strangers, an empathy walk, the distribution of Chinese cookies by a child, the planting of a community garden, a small impromptu ball, a writing marathon, a canine rest stop, a workshop on our stance in the face of the climate emergency, advice for gardening by promoting re-use – these are just some examples of citizen actions that fostered the emergence of a different way of looking at our surroundings and generated ideas to improve the way we live together.

We invite you to watch the video below, which presents insights into one of six thought-provoking “idea factories” that were set up to support citizens who needed a helping hand to realize their projects. You can also watch the interview with Diego Cuadros Rojas on the rationale behind 100in1Day, listen to a report by Radio-Canada International and see an album of some of the actions that were deployed on June 1, 2019.
