Reconnect with Plants and Their Uses Through Ethnobotanical Islands
By creating Ethnobotanical Islands, a winning project from the 2022 Civic Incubator, Hien Le and Hugues Petitjean propose a different approach to preserving biodiversity in the urban environment.
By means of educational gardens located throughout residential areas, the general public is encouraged to reconnect with nature, observe the native plants growing in these spaces, and rediscover their forgotten uses, as one would in medicinal herbariums.
A playful approach to raising awareness of the socio-ecological transition
In this video, Hien and Hugues talk about the importance of perpetuating the transfer of ancestral botanical knowledge, particularly in urban areas, and look back at their experience with the Civic Incubator.
“Participate in the Civic Incubator is not just finding a solution to a tiny issue. It’s thinking about it globally, and how, with all of the social innovation that could be brought to bear, our solution could become part of a larger change that is useful to society.” – Hugues
