THE ART WORKS
Works from "Possible Futures" art show
Artist: Adam Basanta
Materials: mixed media
“Possible Futures,” an exhibition embodying a posture of exploration and conceptual investigation, reflects the ways in which the imagination faces humanity’s uncertain destiny. Through absurd assemblages of different objects and processes, the artist stages relationships between a diversity of ecosystems—technological, biological, and domestic—which rarely interact so directly.
The result is unlikely unions that are themselves real experiments. The works evoke not only possible futures, but also the ingenuity of humans as they seek solutions. And if the artworks cannot promise an ideal solution—if they remain imperfect, zany, even tragic—they nevertheless have the merit of valuing the process of experimentation and exploration so intrinsic to creation… and innovation. Through trial and error and the decompartmentalization of functions, the artist invites us to imagine the potential of an alternate future.
